WATEVA
WATEVA is an Electronic duo hailing from Tallinn, Estonia. Hugo Martin Maasikas (former CARTOON) and Kris Evan Säde (Futuristik) have joined creative forces to introduce a fresh blend of bass driven dance floor fillers.
Hugo had his earlier success with his project CARTOON during 2014 – 2017. Their hit singles, “Why We Lose” & “On & On” gained worldwide recognition and charted at the top of the Spotify Viral Charts. In 2015 they earned the Best Newcomer Producer award by Drum & Bass Arena. Unfortunately the band broke up in Mid 2017 because of creative differences.
In 2016 Hugo met Kris Evan, a local 17-year-old Drum & Bass artist. The two immediately connected. Kris had his music recognized at an early age, signing his first record deal when only 13-years-old. Both tired of Drum & Bass and eager to experiment with something raw and different, they started a duo project called WATEVA — the project that represents their freedom to make something weird and unique. An output for creating “whatever” comes to their mind. Relying on unpredictability and surrealism they not only catch their audience off guard musically, but visually as well.
Their debut single “My Love 2 U” was released on Selected in January 2018. It climbed the Spotify Viral Charts in the United States, UK, Switzerland, Germany, Australia, New Zealand, Netherlands etc. Since then they have been releasing music through Big Beat Records, Selected, Future House Music, NCS and gained support by the likes of Don Diablo, The Chainsmokers, Oliver Heldens, Bingo Players and many others.
The Vocal
We’d be doing this track a disservice If we didn’t mention the vocal. It may not be the first time you have heard this voice on a track by WATEVA – it’s not the first time the very talented vocalist Emily J has teamed up with them, she also laid down some quality vocals on their joint track ‘My Love 2 U’. We absolutely love it when these two combine, the vocal in ‘Someone Better’ really lives up to the phrase vocal hook – it had us hooked from the first time we heard it.
