OUT NOW –
Mafia Kiss is the solo moniker of UK musician, Paul Baron, who represents an exciting new wave of producers within the longstanding breaks genre. Originally inspired by Stanton Warriors — stalwarts of the sound — in 2009, Mafia Kiss began production around the same time and it didn’t take long for him to rack up recognition before eventually signing with his heroes’ imprint, Punks Music, in 2014 with his debut EP, It Began In Detroit.
Today, Mafia Kiss links with the Warriors’ Punks again for a deep, grooving record that’s been anticipated since its debut this spring in Miami. Guided by a swelling horn lead, “UMY” is minimally constructed as plenty of space exists between the tender vocal samples and relaxed percussion. With DJ support already in from folks like Zinc, DJ EZ, and AC Slater as well as a full remix package from Marc Spence, PVC, and Tuff Culture, “UMY” appears to have no problem carrying momentum into next year.
Tune Of The Month – 9/10 – Mixmag
“Premiered at the Miami Winter Music Conference back in March, Mafia Kiss’s latest offering pushes the boundaries of broken beat and paves the way for a deeper, more simplistic approach. The lead horn works wonders wrapped around stripped back beats and an emotive vocal. The producer’s definitely on to something here and prover that he’s not afraid to take risks or try something new”
On remix duties, the awesome Marc Spence has served one of his textbook Jacking House exploits, and UK Bass hot properties PVC and Tuff Culture have donned their finest party hats to deliver some awesome Bass House joints.
